It's Raining, It's Pouring and the Old Man Cancelled Our Flight

Well, after 8 long days of rain and wind in Maui, we made it home to find more rain and wind. Isn't the weather system beautiful? We just returned from a last-minute trip to Maui with Mike's sister, Jenny, and her husband, Andre, and three kids. It actually was a lot of fun to be with them and to be in Hawaii, but the weather wasn't exactly pleasant. It rained every day, and not just the normal tropical rain Hawaii gets. It poured every day! One day there was even thunder and lightning, which closed the hotel pools. What a bummer! We were stuck inside on that day. I can't complain too much, though, because we were in Hawaii. And it was still beautiful and relaxing. We tried to keep Abby dry as much as we could, but after awhile, we got tired of sitting inside all day, so we took her out in the rain and tried to keep her dry out there. She did awesome on her first airplane ride--she didn't even fuss or cry.

On the way home our flight got cancelled so we had to stay an extra day, which would have been fantastic except that it was still pouring rain! Luckily, we had one more night at the hotel we were staying at, so we took a taxi all the way back for one more night there. We were at the airport all day Friday just waiting and waiting for our flight so it felt like a waste of a day, but we managed to still have smiles on our faces.
Here are some pictures of the wet, but fun trip.

Abby and I outside our hotel room. We were on the 8th floor and had a great view of the pool and ocean. This is one of the nicer days--not as much rain and a little sunshine.

Abby and Dad swimming for the first time. She LOVED the pool! She only cried when we took her out. Right as we took her out, it started to pour! At least she was already wet!

We went to a famous Magic/Comedy Show in Lahaina called Warren and Annabelle's. It actually was an AWESOME show and we got to be a part of it. We sat right in front and the last joke was on Mike. You'll have to ask him about his experience as "O.P." (a nickname given to him by Warren, the magician shown in the picture) and what "Papaya" really means. It's a long story, and one only Mike could tell you!
We drove down to Whaler's Village where they have lots of little shops. It was really close to our hotel, but it was raining when we went so we drove there. After eating breakfast, we walked around and enjoyed the break from the rain. Unfortunately, it started to POUR as we were walking down the beach and we had to run back to find shelter. This is Jenny and Andre and their kids running through the rain. Can you tell it's pouring?
We made it one day to the beach, but it was still bad weather. The kids couldn't even go in the water because the current was so strong. Mike and Andre went boogie boarding (with one fin each), but Mike didn't catch one wave. It was a little windy and too big of waves. Every local we talked to there said the weather was unusual for this time of year. I guess we are bad luck!

I put these sunglasses on Abby and she started shaking her head back and forth like she was trying to get them off. She finally calmed down a little for me to take a picture. Isn't she so cute?

We took this picture on the last day we were there. These are real flower leis we got from the hotel when we arrived. They smelled by the end of the week, but we still wore them!
The last picture I'll leave you with is of the ocean. You know when you think of Hawaii, don't you think of clear, blue water? Well, this was the color of the ocean all week--a chocolate milk brown! You couldn't see anything for 100 yards out, which is why we didn't even try snorkeling. What a bummer! We had a good time, but are glad to be home. We are already getting ready for our next trip--Utah for Christmas. Oh the fun never stops!

Even though the weather was crummy, it still sounds, and looks like it was a fun get away. At least it was still a little warmer than most places! Beautiful pictures!

Wow, what a bummer! We just got back from a cruise to Mexico and about half the days were cold and windy. Nothing's worse than planning on the sun and not getting it!!! Still, looks like a weeks with lots of time to relax.
